Other: Custom Item Tracking Speed by: AdminThanks to a bit of code optimization, Custom Item Tracking has increased its speed by roughly 67% over 24 hours ago. We are looking to shave this time in half again over the next day or two. Things were performing not quite as desired due to a recent surge in items being tracked. However, this is, as always, being monitored and addressed accordingly!
Bug Fix: Detection Delays by: AdminThis weekend something rather unfortunate happened: during the frustration of trying to fix duplicate notifications (which seems to have been finally knocked out), a development revision to our detection system got uploaded instead of the production version. Consequently, the system did not perform as expected. This has since been fixed. Please accept our apologies, all is well in GEUpdate land again :).
If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to let us know.
Other: Duplicate Notification by: AdminIt seems that the previously applied patches have failed to work properly. Further inspection suggests this to be because of a technological bottleneck on our primary eXchange server. Because of this, we are rushing the delivery of our new server, but it may not be online for a week or so as it must be being built and shipped to our datacenter in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Despite this, the last roughly six hours have spent auditing our systems to allievate some of the problems that are causing this bottleneck. As a result of this, a few additional measures have been put into place that will hopefully correct this issue once and for all.
Unfortunately, it has been difficult to reproduce the exact circumstances that have lead to the duplicate global notifications because doing so would result in additional (fake) notifications. Similarly, we are only able to know for sure if the patches have worked when an actual update has happened. This means that if they haven't, duplicate notifications are sent. I realize how annoying this is - please accept our apologies. We are doing absolutely everything we can to shore up the issue. It shouldn't happen again :).

Bug Fix: Custom Item Tracking Images by: AdminA small modification was just made to the custom item tracking system so images of the items you're tracking are now displayed on the dashboard page. This should make it a bit easier/visual to manage the items you're interested; not sure when this stopped working, but it's fixed now!
Bug Fix: Other by: AdminA couple of bugs were fixed moments ago...among them: a bug that prevented custom item notifications from having the correct time of update attached to them, a bug that may have caused some duplicate notifications has been (again) patched after the last one didn't work so well, and update prediction has been slightly tweaked. Also, The "Edit Info" page has had all times converted from the GMT standard, to our new UTC standard. Happy merchanting!
Bug Fix: Notification Glitch by: AdminThis morning there was a bit of an error with our eXchange server. It seems that the recent transition to UTC from the GMT standard upset one of our servers, and so a few users may have received a duplicate notification before the system lock went into place. The problem has been patched and should no longer be an issue. Please accept our apologies :).
Bug Fix: Times & Account Information Fixes by: AdminTwo bugs were just patched up, it seems that GMT (UK) time is subject to some sort of European Summer Time, which only further complicates showing correct times. As a consequence, times are in the process of being switched over to UTC, which is the equivalent of +0 GMT all the time. Those of you in the U.K, I believe, are currently on BST (+1 GMT) instead of GMT [hereafter UTC]. Update your time zones accordingly. A few bugs in this system are still being worked out.
Also, a rather large bug was just fixed in the Account Information page that prevented many users from changing their notification addresses (either SMS/email) or updating their email address for website communications. Somehow this slipped through the cracks, but seems to be working now.
As usual, we continue to monitor these fixes to make sure that everything is working accordingly!
Other: Celebration! by: AdminIt seems as though GEUpdate.com just welcomed it's 5000th member, which is nothing short of astonishing. As always, thank you for choosing GEUpdate.com for your Runescape Grand Exchange needs. We appreciate all the feedback and assistance many of you have provided which has allowed us to create an amazing product.
Much respect.
Other: Random Downtime by: AdminJust wanted to post a quick note about some of the random downtime that has been experienced lately. The problem has been identified as one of our primary database servers, we're working on routing traffic to other servers in the cluster and ordering replacement hardware ASAP. Things are basically 95% stable at the moment and there is no immediate issue. Things are a bit more random than we would like them to be. Once we get a new box on line downtime should no longer be an issue.
New Feature: Runescape Merchanting by: AdminIt is with great pleasure that we are able to officially announce (though it was linked last Thursday) the Runescape Merchanting branch of GEUpdate.com. Before a brief introduction of its features, it can be found at merchanting.geupdate.com - Runescape Merchanting, or by clicking Merchanting in the navigation menu.
This project has been in development for a few months, and the aim is rather simple: make merchanting relevant to all Runescape players. It is very easy to get caught up in the notion that merchanting only applies to those in clan chats. However, in reality, the impacts of the market this mentality creates greatly applies to everyone - including skillers. Thus, the purpose of Runescape Merchanting is to elucidate (not only to skillers) but merchants as well the real implications of price fluctuations
As a synopsis, the site takes aggregate data from the GEUpdate website (constantly updated) and composes it into tables which are delineated by skill or general area of interest. Take the "Farming" page, for example, which is divided into two general areas: power farming (fruit and regular trees), and farming for profit. In the power farming tables, one sees the total cost (either positive or negative) for each farming XP gained by a successful plot. Thus, one can weigh which item is best grown to either maximize profit, or minimize expense/time. Similarly, the page also calculates (again, live) the profit from typical round of farming herbs.
This data breaks down even further (for example, Herblore) in terms of merchants when one can see discrepancies in price between different potions that can be exploited for profit.
In truth, there is way too much information to explain here, and we would encourage you to check it out for yourself. Keep in mind the website right now is in Beta mode, and changes are constantly being made based on user feedback. Nevertheless, it's a tool, to the careful user, that has immense value if properly analyzed. More documentation to follow soon :).
