GEUpdate was created in late 2008 at the personal request of a collegiate level Runescape player who didn't have much time to play the game, but desperately wanted to sell his Blue Party Hat. Knowing that the easiest (and really only) way to do this being to get it in the Grand Exchange once the price had been updated, a crude script was created to send a text message to his phone when the Grand Exchange was updated. After a week or two of small tweaks it was fully functional and the party hat was sold, and the idea set aside for a summer project later on down the road.

After talking to some members of a clan and briefly discussing the script, a decision was made to try and adapt the script and scale it out so anyone could utilize the incredible power of the script. This decision would lead to over a 6 month coding marathon and the completion of one of the creators most difficult coding endeavors, requiring scalability, customizability, and performance.

GEUpdate.com is a tribute to all college students (or anyone) who would rather sleep (or study?) than sit around waiting for the Grand Exchange updates. Now, it is truly possible to have the best of both worlds. Development of the site is continuous and nearly constant, more features are always being added, efficiency improved, and bugs patched, in an effort to build the most complete (and first) Runescape Grand Exchange Notifier, ever.

Note regarding when this page was originally written: In late 2008 and early 2009 (when this site was initially created, partyhats were priced (following the grand exchange's release) way above market value. Because of this, it was impossible to sell them due to the newly imposed wealth transfer limits. Since then, inflation has hit the game. However, before this time, partyhats were in a price freefall and no one was buying them. Thus, it was important to be the first one in the grand exchange at the new price on the off-chance that if one was bought, it would not be someone else's.

Fast forward to present: We realize it is no longer a matter of desperately wanting to sell partyhats, so much as buying them. This same importance of being informed when the grand exchange update applies, albeit in reverse. GEUpdate.com remains one of the only ways to buy partyhats by notifying you as soon as an update happens so a proper buy-offer can be made. GEUpdate has never been better equipped to perform this job.
